Give to the Max Day 2017

Support Sumunar during Give to the Max Day on November 16, 2017. Give to the Max is an annual celebration of generosity organized by Launched in 2009, Give to the Max Day has become an annual tradition for thousands of Minnesotans to contribute to the nonprofit organizations and schools that do so much to improve the quality of life here. Minnesotans are a generous lot, but Give to the Max Day makes contributing even more fun with special prizes and other incentives.

Sumunar is looking forward to a busy 2018. We have received funding from the Minnesota State Arts Board Folk and Traditional Arts that will bring four master gamelan musicians to the Twin Cities in spring or early summer. In addition to giving a public concert with these musicians, we will record these master musicians playing some of the most common pieces in the gamelan repertoire on the more challenging elaborating instruments, to create a series of educational videos for gamelan students. These videos will be made freely available on the web. Then, on the weekend of October 19, 2017, we will be performing at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis as a part of the Southern’s curated 2018 season. These are wonderful opportunities, but we need your help to make them a reality. The Minnesota State Arts Board covers only 75% of the cost of the project, so Sumunar must raise 25% matching funds. Likewise, the Southern covers some, but not all costs of mounting our production. And Sumunar has the ongoing cost of rent, insurance, and so on.

Please consider giving a tax-deductible gift to Sumunar! Here’s how your contributions can help us make up the difference.
$500 – studio rent for a month
$300 – costumes for dancers
$250 – sound and lighting for performance
$200 – truck rental to move instruments
$150 – program and advertising printing
$100 – food for performers on concert day

Any amount helps! We are grateful for your support.
