Gamelan Camp at MacPhail

Discover a fascinating new kind of music—learn to play traditional Indonesian music on the spectacular set of instruments known as a gamelan. You will play gongs of various sizes, metallophones (like xylophones, but metal), and other instruments that join together in this form of collaborative music making. No previous musical experience is needed. Joko will teach you basic techniques and musical forms, and from the first day you will be playing real pieces of music. You will gain skills that are valuable in any form of music making— listening, focus, and cooperative effort. And what’s more—the learning process is FUN! The camp will end with an informal performance so that you can share your new abilities with parents and friends.
